Sports Carnivals and Camps !

Well I'm a little late posting this ! We have already finished the term and returned home to Sydney

.... But had to write this final post about my last few weeks.

Over the last 6 weeks of term I spent 4 weeks off the property with the boys first at mini school at Longreach, Gymnastics camp at Quilpie, then finally in week 9 and 10 Sports Carnival at Longreach and a Sports Camp at Windorah.
It has been a very busy term, and in the end I finished the term at Windorah from where our boss drove the boys and I 300kms to the station boundary where we met George in our ute, said our goodbyes and began the long journey home.

It has been an amazing journey over the last 12 months, one we have really enjoyed and would not have missed for the world. We are very grateful to have shared this families life and to have been a part of their station life.

SPORTS CARNIVAL AND WINDORAH SPORTS CAMP !!

The Longreach SODE and Small Schools Sports Carnival was held over 2 days and began with a parade of LSODE house teams and the small schools involved. Our boys were part of the Coolibah house team. This year Coolibah dressed as Angry Birds and the other house in yellow as minions.

On the last week of term we transfered from Longreach to Windorah where I stayed with the
boys for a week of Sports Camp. Again this was held for the small schools in the local
region and SODE families who wished to attend.
The boys participated each day in soccer, cricket, rugby, netball, gymnastics and circus skill workshops. These were run by sports people from associations like the Qld Rugby and Cricket associations from Brisbane. While there for the week 80 children and 40 adults slept in swags on the floors of the Windorah Community Hall and school. A dining room was also set up in the main room of the community hall. The room below held 23 swags, including mine next to the 2 boys.

A photo taken by me while the official photo was taken of all the attendees, their teachers and govies.

Gymnastics !

Of an afternoon the day finished with afternoon smoko and then an activity before showers, dinner and the evening activity. Afternoon activities werean afternoon out at the sandhills, the park ( which the boys always enjoy as they don't get to go to one very often), free time. At might there was a talent night, movie night, disco and presentation night.

On our drive into Longreach our boss, the boys' mother, spotted a joey on the side of the road trying to get back into its dead mother's pouch. She rescued it and it was my job to
keep it warm until we
reached Longreach another 3 hours away. This photo was taken a week later as we were saying goodbye to the family at the station boundary.

Our journey has been an amazing one over the last 12 months but it is time for us to move on. We thank you for following our journey and for reading my online diary !

If you have enjoyed reading about our wonderful experiences then please continue to do so as we move onto the next stage of our aussie adventure !
After returning home to spend some time with family and friends we have again hit the road for the next exciting stage in our life's journey.
We will be travelling and working over the next year, returning home for Christmas. We already have a contract in November to work on another cattle station further north of Longreach and look forward to a different experience there. In the meantime we are heading north and will travel through gulf country before heading into the next station.

Watch for our next instalment.
